During this first heat wave of summer, the Chester County Department of Emergency Services wishes to remind residents of the following:
-Keep your home cool by covering your windows with drapes or shades.
-Find places in your community where you can go to get cool–senior centers, libraries, stores.
-Never leave a child, adult or pet in a vehicle during extreme heat. The temperature in a vehicle is much higher than it is on the outside!
-If you have to be outside – find shade and take frequent breaks.
-Wear loose fitting, lightweight, light colored clothing.
-Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.
-Avoid high energy activities.
-Check on family members and neighbors to be sure they are keeping cool.
-Know the signs of heat related illnesses.
-Check on your pets – bring them inside and provide them with plenty of cool water.
